Anchor rod:

An anchor rod is a type of fastener used to secure structures and equipment to a foundation or concrete slab. It consists of a long, threaded steel rod that is embedded in the concrete and extends above the surface, allowing for attachment of various components. Anchor rods are commonly used in construction, such as for anchoring steel columns, equipment supports, or concrete walls to a foundation. They are also used in infrastructure projects, such as for securing bridges and retaining walls. The size, length, and strength of anchor rods depend on the specific application and the loads they are required to withstand.

When a hole is cut into a rock layer, the equilibrium of rock mechanics is disrupted, and the surrounding rock may move into the hole, resulting in phenomena such as roof settlement, extrusion, sheeting, and bottom heave, which vary in form, appearance, and degree depending on the geological conditions and rock mechanics of the strata.

To address these phenomena, underground support can be divided into two categories: support that directly supports the rock strata with pillars, rotation, and wall laying, and support that strengthens the rock strata around the roadway with cement slurry or chemical agents. Bolt support belongs to the latter category, where bolts are installed in the rock layer to reinforce it and resist the ground pressure generated by the roadway.

However, to use anchor rod support efficiently, it is important to understand the phenomena of rock pressure and their underlying causes. The goal of anchor rod support is not only to prevent the collapse and shearing of the rock but also to address the root causes of these phenomena.
